APS Supt Winston Brooks has been role modeling for students and staff; badly.
He has an opportunity to role model morally courageous behavior. He has the opportunity to impose upon himself (as long as no one else is) consequences that are appropriate to his misconduct.
Brooks is the senior-most administrative role model of the standards of conduct that he and the board establish and enforce upon students; the Pillars of Character Counts!; a nationally recognized, accepted and respected code of ethical conduct.
Like George Washington and the cherry tree, Brooks has the opportunity to show students what it looks like to hold oneself honestly accountable to meaningful standards of conduct.
Every generation expects the next generation to be the first generation to hold itself honestly accountable to meaningful standard of conduct.
If we really want students to grow into adults who embrace character and courage and honor, someone has to show them what those look like.
Heretofore, the leadership of the APS has steadfastly refused to even acknowledge their obligations as the senior-most role models of student standards of conduct.
It seems unlikely, that leadership will now demonstrate honest accountability as role models of higher standards of conduct than the law; the standards of conduct that every higher standards are higher than.
Brooks will skate.
